June is National Safety Month and week 2 is Wellness week. It is important to prioritize your wellness. Our wellness has an impact on the physical aspects of both home and work life and also on our mental wellbeing. Here are some tips to help improve daily wellness:
- Take stairs instead of elevators/escalators
- Take a walk on your lunch or break and/or take a walk through your neighborhood in the evening
- Have a healthy snack for those in between meal cravings
- Join an exercise class, your local parks department may have several to offer
- Take breaks during the day, stand up and stretch
- Visit your doctor annually, discuss with them all of your concerns, ensure you are getting all the proper tests
- Ensure you get the proper amount of sleep every night (7-9 hours)
- If your employer has wellness programs, join them, take advantage of them
- Encourage family, friends and coworkers to join you in your efforts
Being observant of our physical surroundings along with physical wellness can help prevent accidents/injuries at home and at the worksite. Our safety often depends on those around us. Keeping yourself well can help ensure the safety of you, your loved ones and your coworkers. The above tips are just a few ideas.
